Question 1

What does an elevator consultant do?

Accepted Answer

An elevator consultant provides independent advice on the design, procurement, maintenance and modernisation of lifts, escalators and other vertical transportation systems. Unlike lift contractors, a consultant has no commercial interest in a particular brand or product and acts solely in the client's interest.

Question 2

When do I need an independent lift consultant?

Accepted Answer

You should engage an independent lift consultant when specifying a new lift installation, reviewing a maintenance contract, planning a modernisation project, or when you need an unbiased safety audit or compliance report. Independent advice is particularly valuable when managing large building portfolios or government assets.

Question 3

What is a lift safety audit?

Accepted Answer

A lift safety audit is an independent assessment of a lift's condition, performance and compliance with relevant Australian standards. It identifies deficiencies, maintenance shortfalls and safety risks, and provides a written report with recommendations.

Question 4

What is the difference between lift maintenance and lift modernisation?

Accepted Answer

Lift maintenance covers the ongoing servicing and repair of an existing system to keep it operational and compliant. Modernisation involves upgrading major components such as the control system, drive, doors or cab to extend the lift's useful life, improve reliability and meet current standards.
